This training is approved for CE in supervision for social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists in the state of Ohio. This training is approved for prevention professionals in domain PS1 and clinical supervisors in domain S1.

Level of Course | 100 Beginner

This training is designed for individuals who want to challenge themselves to better support their staff and clients using a multicultural perspective. It will require active participation and a willingness to increase self- awareness. Participants will also work together to identify aspects of privilege and bias and identify ways to technique to address these issues in the supervisory relationship. Lastly, participants will look developing an individual plan to continue their multicultural development from a personal and professional standpoint. Course participants will be able to ask questions via webinar chat during the Q&A portion of the course.

Objectives

  1. Self-identify aspects of implicit bias in your work as a supervisor.
  2. Identify at least one activity or technique to use in understanding intersections between you and your supervisee as well as between your supervisee and their client.
  3. Identify at least one activity or technique to use in understanding intersections between you and your supervisee as well as between your supervisee and their client.

Agenda

  • 9:00am – Introductions and intro to implicit bias
  • 9:30am – Privilege and the supervisory relationship
  • 10:30am – Individual and intersecting identities in supervision
  • 11:45am – Questions, evaluations, wrap-up
  • 12:15pm – Close

Participants are required to stay logged-in for the Q&A portion of the training for successful completion, as it is part of the educational portion of this course.

Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Counseling and Consultation Service

Shivani Gopal Edwards is a two-time alumnus of The Ohio State University. She is the Assistant Director of Clinical Services at Counseling and Consultation Service and a community instructor with the College of Social Work at OSU. She has spent over 25 years as a clinical social worker, therapist and advocate in the central Ohio community. Shivani has worked to create and support diverse work and service environments with local non –profit agencies in addition to OSU. She provides therapy, training and education in the areas of multicultural counseling, school social work, and social work practice. She is currently a Board member with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) of Franklin County.

Evaluations will be distributed within 24 hours after the training via email. You will receive a link where you can submit the completed evaluation. Evaluations must be completed to receive CE credits. Certificates will be available to download once the once the evaluation is received.
